Product Description

The tremendous charisma of Chow Yun-fat anchors this entertaining comic-book romp. Bulletproof Monk centers around a monk with no name (Chow) dedicated to protecting a sacred scroll that can give world-manipulating power to anyone who reads it. A hidden Nazi has been pursuing the scroll for 60 years and has finally caught up with the monk in present-day New York City; meanwhile, the monk suspects he may have found a disciple in a petty thief (Seann William Scott, Dude, Where's My Car?, American Pie) who's learned kung fu from watching double-feature chopsocky flicks. Don't let the presence of Chow Yun-fat lead you to expect much substance--this doesn't have the emotional scope of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or the visual panache of Hard-Boiled. But Bulletproof Monk is a cheerful, tightly edited, unpretentious action flick with flashes of humor, good for a mindless evening's entertainment. Also featuring Jaime (a.k.a. James) King (Blow). --Bret Fetzer

Bulletproof Monk -Theatrical release

The reasons I enjoyed this movie are: 1. Chow Yun Fat. This superb actor never fails to give his best to any type of role he undertakes. He often overcomes any flaws in the script itself, and I feel that is what he did here. He has played many different types of characters and never repeats himself. I enjoyed his humour as well as his action scenes. They were suberbly choreographed. I believe that the presence of John Woo had much to do with that.
2. I was delighted to see that this movie, unlike many others today, was more than just a lot of action but had some plot, laughs, excitement, and genuine fun for the audience.
3. I liked that the heros did some good deeds such as saving a person from the wheels of a subway train, and returning a wallet to a man on the street, etc. But then, when Mr. Chow has played the bad guy in many of his Asian films, he always had the persona of a villian with a heart, such as going back into a burning building in one old film to save a baby
4.I was a bit disappointed in the lack of a lot of lush scenery and sets, but what was there was appropiate to the plot.
5. The fight between the two women reminded me of "Crouching Tiger, ....." Go see it you'll like it!

Chow Yun Fat plays the part like its his. This movie states so clearly the yin and yang. This is one of the most magnificant movies i have seen. Of fullfilling prophecy, of teaching the way and nurting the good in one. There is so much to learn from this movie i guarentee you it will be passed down from the generations in my family when i have them. 10 Stars to the director of this movie and the actors..you have done a magnificent movie and astounding job portraying the characters! Also the music is the best too.

Chow Yun Fat is well known for his action/martial arts movie roles. However, most of the best known ones have ranged from serious to the downright gloomy. In this movie, he gets to show a range of expression that was denied him in his other popular films, and demonstrates a good grasp of comedic timing while still leaving the film overall serious.

Our villains, led by a genuine Old Nazi, are the sort that, well, we just won't HAVE for much longer. I mean, even the youngest of the real Nazis would be in their late 70s by now, so soon even the most generous interpretation of longevity will eliminate what's been the single most reliable standby for Real True Villainy. Enjoy this uncomplicated good versus evil tale, because it's got a lot to enjoy -- ancient prophecies adjusting to modern demands, boy meets girl, girl meets boy, girl and boy go kicking butt together, wierd Oriental philosophies also adjusting to modern demands, B-movie superscience, and superhuman martial arts. I rewatched this one just a few days after I first saw it, and that's a rarity for me. Definitely worth the price.

LOVE IT!

I love this movie so much! I rented it first to see if I would enjoy it before I paid 20 bucks for it on dvd..and I wish I had just went out and got it insted of renting it! I did not enjoy the matrix one bit! and the only think that keep me from this movie was its matrix look..however I really loved Crouching tiger hidden dragon..and Iron monkey..so I just had a good fealing about this movie, its story is not soo deep or should I say as "stuped" as the matrix.. but knowing some people they will think this movie looks stuped and never give it a chance..Rent this movie and I bet you will be on amazon buying this dvd the next day. so for fans of Iron monkey,Crouching tiger hidden dragon,Matrix or just good old action movie fans this movie is worth the money..but one thing I dont like on the dvd is that this movie is in widescreen ONLY..I hate that so I got the VHS verson also because its full screen.so Rent the VHS and buy the dvd and enjoy!
