Product Description |
| Hewing closer to Paul Verhoeven's original and much-maligned Starship Troopers than the all-brawn-no-brains sequel, Hero of the Federation, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder blends high-power action with a dose of socio-political commentary in its story of gung-ho Marines versus insidious alien bugs. Ed Neumeier, who penned the Verhoeven film, is back as writer and director, as is Casper Van Dien as lantern-jawed hero Johnny Rico. Now a full-fledged colonel, he is dispatched to a planet where the military faces opposition from both the insect army and dissenting citizens. But after a trumped-up murder charge lands him on death row, Rico discovers that he's being sent on a secret mission to rescue a Sky Marshal (Stephen Anouke) who's gone missing deep in bug territory. Neumeier uses the well-worn military movie tropes to launch a satiric assault on all manner of current real world issues, from ultra-patriotism and military torture to religious fundamentalism and even pop culture as propaganda (Anouke's sky marshal is also a chart-topping singer). He lands a fair share of his jabs, and those that fall flat--Marnette Patterson's grating flight attendant--are tempered by sights like a ring of mechanical warrior 'bots forming an angelic halo. Unfortunately, said special effects are not particularly special, with the robots--the Marauders of the title--arriving far too late in the game. But with so many direct-to-DVD genre titles delivering little more than shoot-em-ups and CGI demonstrations, the tinge of black humor that runs through Starship Troopers 3 is appreciated. The disc includes two commentaries, one featuring Neumeier, Van Dien and Jolene Blalock (Enterprise), and the other with Neumeier and producer David Lancaster; a featurette on the new bugs on display in Troopers 3, as well as interviews with the movie's soldiers, round out the extra features. --Paul Gaita |

| Very good movie. Need a blu-ray movie for Starship Troopers 2 in Blu-Ray. I ordered Starship Troopers in Blu-ray but it wouldn't play. Ordered a replacement and it wouldn't play either. I noticed on my Sony Blu-Ray player that it was tagged as a BD-ROM..?? |
Johnny Rico is back. So are the bugs.

| My kind of direct-to-DVD cheese. Impressive directorial debut by writer Edward Neumeier. Very good looking production for a lower budget film and a worthy sequel to the cult Paul Verhoeven original. Solid cast and performances, dense and surprising script by Neumeier. |
Political Satire at its best! Grim questions asked and thought provoking!

| The novel was fantastic. The films comparatively so. I highly recommend this as a good exercise in perusing the questions of military action, religion, governments and citizenship. Not really entertainment! |
A worthy sequel

First off, the people that slate this film seem to forget it's made for a straight to video market. That means the film is made to a smaller budget than a feature film. Considering these factors, this is a good film and worthy entry into the series. This is 100 times better than the previous sequel, which I found awful in every respect. Marauder is slick looking, has mostly good special effects, some great action scenes and is well directed by Edward Neumeier. It's great to see the character of Johnny Rico back. He adds a lot of credibility to the film. If this is a B movie, then it's a good B movie in my opinion.
Now a few comments on the Blu-ray disc. This film looks great in High Definition. One of the best I've seen for picture quality. Loads of features too. |
Loved It!!!!

I tell you, I must be missing something. This was an enjoyable watch and I must admit this is definetly a guilty pleasure of mine. It had sub-par acting, but that is my kind of movie...I'm a big fan of "B" rated films and this is a "B" rated film if I ever seen one.
If you are not familiar with the Starship Troopers Trilogy you have to check out the first one, it's by far the best of the series, but I have this as a close second. |
